Supporting the community
At Holy Trinity, we aim to provide a heart for the community, inspired by God's love. In the last year, we have started a number of new initiatives to help us bring this vision to life. You can read about these in more detail in our Annual Report 2009 - 10 (pdf document).
The church is now open to visitors on a Saturday morning, and people are welcome to pop in to have a look round or have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat.
We give food to people who are struggling to make ends meet and have begun monthly prayer visiting - offering to pray for the needs of individuals and families within the parish. We all wondered what sort of response we would get when we started on a cold dark October evening. To our surprise, we received a very warm welcome at the door -some even offered a cup of tea and cake! Many people really appreciated the fact that we cared. The result is we are really making contact with people who have never been to church or haven’t been for some time. Some of these people have now attended services on a Sunday.
We have strengthened our links with local schools, particularly Alexandra Junior School and Cator Park, and in 2009 both schools had their Christmas Carol Services at Holy Trinity.
We have also continued to develop our Pastoral Care and Healing teams with three members having now attended the Diocesan Introductory Course on Healing. A small number of us have been involved in a pilot scheme with Christ Church Anerley and St John’s Penge looking at healing on the street. The response has been very encouraging.
