About our parish

The parish has approximately 2,200 households with a total population of around 5000. The types of housing vary considerably, comprising large detached houses, terraced houses and cottages built during the Victorian era. There are a number of modem blocks of flats the majority being managed by housing associations. A significant number of the large Victorian houses have been divided into flats and bedsits. In addition some are used as day nurseries (2) and sheltered housing for the elderly (2). Indeed there are four care homes / sheltered houses for the elderly within this parish.

 

There are excellent rail links to the City and West End of London as well as many local bus routes. The parish has a number of clusters of local shops and both Penge and Sydenham high streets are within easy walking distance from the church. Bromley town centre is only a 15-minute car journey away and has a large shopping complex. There is a small commercial / industrial site, two recreation grounds and three local authority schools, namely Alexandra Infants, Alexandra Junior and Cator Park school for girls.

 

The parish falls within the Lewisham West and Penge electoral ward. There are three other places of worship. 

 

Many parishioners commute daily to London and there is a high turnover in population, indeed there is a large number of young couples with both partners going to work. There are quite a number of families with young children in the district.

 

There is a significant number of the population on low incomes, pensions or unemployed.
